Shawn- I liked reading the poem you wrote! It is heart touching. It shows how you grew up, how you were taught and who you are today. I like seeing the steps of how you because who you are now.
I'm also from a childhood of confusion. It builds character to find a way to overcome the bad habits you're taught. Congratulations on being one of the few to break the cycle.
Shawn, I think you have captured a little of what we all feel about our families. Even though they are pretty messed up sometimes, you still love em, cause they are your family, and you only get one.
Someone once told me you don't get to pick your family. I like to believe we all do the best we knew how at the time.
