Hi! I'm Allen Reeves. I'm a 43 year old single dad of 2 little girls. I've had a life full of different careers and now I'm excited to start a new one. When I finished high school, I went straight into the Army. I spent 6 years in the military, 2 in the reserves, and 4 full time active duty. My enlistment was over right after the first gulf war and i decided to try civilian life. Luckily, i recieved alot of experience driving large vehicles in the Army so I became a cross country truck driver. I enjoyed that for about 8 years, but then it became a little boring after seeing the same roads over and over. After driving trucks, I decided to see what it was like to work in a convenient store. I actually loved that job and did very well. I was promoted to a supervisor for the whole chain within 2 and a half years. After that, I became disenchanted with the stress to pay ratio, on call 24-7 and didnt feel I was being rewarded enough, so i started working at a call center. The call center is ok but ive decided to go back to school and open my options. Im to a point in my life that I just want to give my 2 girls more than they have now. One of them is getting ready to start kindergarten in the fall and i figured me going to school will also be a good example to them.
It sounds like you have a pretty amazing life Allen and seen many things!! I am jealous of all of the many things you have probably seen in your life and I'm happy you have decided to better your life more! Way to go!!
ReplyDeleteSounds as though you have given some thought to your goals. I believe trying different jobs helps you decide what you enjoy doing. I think it may be equally important to know what you don't want
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have went into the military. I was scared to give up my come and go as I please attitude. I regret it now. I bet you went to some cool places. Did you leave the country?
ReplyDeletemy dad was an over the road driver for years.. lots of nice pictures but i dont think i could do it. it takes a certain kind of person to do that kind of work.
ReplyDeleteComing from a back ground where my parents were only role models in the sense that I learned that the smart thing to do was the opposite of what they were doing, I think that you going to school as an example for your daughters is stupendous. This isn't something I think you will ever find yourself regretting. Cudos.
ReplyDeleteWay to be a good role model for your children, there are not enough parents out there that have done that for their kids. I am also former military so if you ever need someone to talk to about any of it, let me know, I would love to lend an ear.
ReplyDeleteI'm just reading this, and I'm thinking "What is Mr. Reeves going to do next??" You've already done so many nifty things, and it sounds like you don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I approve!
ReplyDeleteGo big or go home! Thats what I get from this in a good way. You have experienced it all. I have only worked at 1 job and have only done this 1 thing (college) as my experience but hopefully after my 2 years here I will be able to go further.
